Motorcycle Explorer February 2015 Issue 4 | Page 77

This charming book is the life and history of the author Lance Gines . Lance is a hairstylist from Boise Idaho USA . Growing up on a farm with plenty of motorbikes and horses to play on … still not sure how Lance became a hairstylist with that background but if Zohan the international counter terrorist specialist can do it then I ’ m sure a rancher ’ s son from Idaho can too .
I really enjoyed that Lance has full focus in the book about his relationship with friends and father and of course about the rides that they go on together . It was only later that I found out what Lance does for a living , while motorcycles are his obsession and you don ’ t really need to know that much about the personal past to be able to understand the obvious passion that Lance has for simple motorcycle travel .
Lance has been on a motorcycle since he was 6 playing on that farm and I smiled as I read about the youth of the boy . Being raised myself in an inner city council estate in Liverpool UK my youth was very different and no one I knew at 6 had a motorcycle … not that they had bought at any rate ! So to get a glimpse into this other life on another continent was refreshing .
There are plenty of goodies to enjoy in the tales , as Lance brakes up the chapters into different bike rides that he has been on . While not an around the world epic account they are interesting to read the views of an American riding in America . I ’ ve read plenty of books about foreign travel but not that many that have been riding around your country and then the view of the people around you , or in fact that of the neighbouring counties .. or in this case states , it being the United States of course .
The book is littered with fantastic sounding places like Hell ’ s Canyon and Rattlesnake Grade as Lance gives a tour guide like journey in the book . There are plenty of places you can go to .
