'Use quotes to inject
some dynamism into
your story.'

Use quotes to inject some dynamism into your story. Quotes add
character and offer an interesting diversion to the narrative. It depends
who is being quoted and why, but putting words in people’s mouths is
more interesting than reading them secondhand. And don’t worry about
getting every last word correct; if you’re quoting a shopkeeper from
Bolivia who said something hilarious or profound, you can ad lib a little
for the purposes of artistic flair! He ain’t gonna sue.
