Their answers Question : “ What is the Farmhouse at this location constructed from …” answer : “ Cheese ” Question ; “ What is in the field to your right at this point ” answer : “ angry farmer shaking fist ” made for many a giggle for the marking team and settled the general attitude for the whole event from all . A giggle , a ride in the country and a bit of a do afterwards . Sunday slowly got into gear with a series of guided rides mustering in the car-park , the marshals once again going above and beyond with many groups out covering a selection of the lanes they ’ d either found … or not , the previous day . This time at a more genteel pace , a smattering of longer road only rides were also laid on for the less hardy ( and more achy !) The sun shone all day and everyone chilled , drank , rode and dozed , pretty much to their little hearts content , until the groups began returning around midafternoon and the drinking began in earnest …
The Irish contingent were in full voice right into the wee small hours , ably accompanied by the obligatory Welsh
A great deal of ale , cider , Guinness and whisky was quaffed , or spilled and many heads were rather delicate the following morning …
Monday dawned to dead silence as the sleeping hoard regained consciousness , slowly and with great trepidation … tents began to be folded and packed away and riders trickled back to civilisation in dribs and drabs , still grinning … backs were patted , man hugs freely exchanged and promises to return again from everyone … and I do mean EVERYONE . It was at this point that a warden from the National Park rocked up and enquired what routes we ’ d been using … as a farmer had complained of widespread trespass , as it transpired it was only the aforementioned Smithy and his good lady Sue ( the Witch ) hopelessly lost and riding back and forth across his fields desperate to find a way out . So that was soon sorted out and any ruffled feathers were smoothed
A few hardy souls decided to stay on for even more riding , sightseeing , or recovery time as necessary … but after clearing up , filling a skip with rubbish and a hearty meal , the tea set about totting up the take . The final count was
over £ 1000 raised for charity and eventually the remaining hard core of Jason , Christian and Craig buggered off home for a well-earned kip , oh and to plan next year of course .
