Despite Diogo Moreira, the reigning Moto2™ World Champion, stepping up to MotoGP™, the other Moto2™ contenders in 2025 have stayed behind to contest another highly competitive season.
Last year saw all kinds of records broken. 18 different riders climbed the podium in the intermediate class and eleven won a race. Never has a category seen such variety before.
Of those likely to fight at the front this year, Manuel Gonzalez( Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) is likely to be back in contention after his title challenge just fell short in 2025.
Barry Baltus( Fantic Racing) was the revelation of 2025. Along with amassing seven podiums, the Belgian finished third in the championship and should be even stronger this term. New team-mate Tony Arbolino adds further experience to the line-up.
CFMoto Aspar Team’ s talented duo of Dani Holgado and David Alonso were the outstanding rookies last term, and both Moto2™ race winners. Now in their second season in the class, both will be keen to mount a serious title challenge and hopefully turn the eye of a MotoGP™ Team Manager.
All eyes will be on the all-new Elf Marc VDS Racing Team pairing of Aron Canet and Deniz Oncu. Both riders have won multiple intermediate class races. Gelling with the Boscoscuro chassis after years spent on the Kalex will be key to their competitiveness.
Also keep an eye on a number of talented riders who have graduated from Moto3™. Reigning champ Jose Antonio Rueda( Red Bull KTM Ajo) should be fast, while Angel Piqueras( QJMotor – Frinsa – MSI) will provide stiff opposition for this year’ s Rookie of the Year gong.
