Welcome

As Governor of Sports Authority of Thailand ( SAT ), I would like to express , at the outset , my deep appreciation to all public and private sectors for the great participation once again in the hosting of the MotoGP “ OR Thailand Grand Prix 2022 ”, the world ’ s number one motorcycle race series . The staging of a global event like this cannot achieved without the best support and cooperation from every party concerned .
During the past two seasons , Thailand has been lauded as one of the world ’ s most breathtaking and thrilling races due to stunning last-corner victories in 2018 and 2019 consecutively . Marc Marquez won back-to-back world titles here in Thailand and has become the first champion of Thailand ’ s MotoGP . The event could therefore expand the popularity of motorsports in Thailand . A broader range of local and overseas MotoGP fans want to watch the event with their own eyes once in a lifetime at the actual site in Buriram , so , this contributes a lot to sports tourism promotion undertaken by Sports Authority of Thailand .
According to the study of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports , the latest race in Thailand could create an economic value and a revolving fund of more than 3,457 million Baht as well as increase employment with 5,584 jobs . The event also conveyed an impressive image of Thailand to the world via the international media , with more than 483 crews from 32 countries worldwide , and generated national PR value of more than billions of Baht . It was therefore considered worthwhile to invest in by the public and private partners due to its ability to promote Thailand ’ s reputation on the global stage and generate an enormous amount of income for Thais , especially residents of Buriram and neighboring provinces .
When mentioning the progress of the contestants , there were two Thai riders , i . e . Somkiat “ Kong ” Chantra from Idemitsu Honda Team Asia and Keminth “ K ” Kubo from Yamaha VR46 Master Camp competing impressively in Moto2 throughout the season . This showed true performance enhancement of Thai racers at the world stage and would help encourage Thai children who are interested in motorsports to persevere in practice and improve their abilities to emerge on the world level like those senior racers .
On behalf of the Sports Authority of Thailand , we hope that the hosting of the MotoGP “ OR Thailand Grand Prix 2022 ” will support and align with the sports tourism policy of the Ministry of ” economy , especially the motorsports and automotive industry in the country .
