Skinner poised for Moto2™ wildcard
Rory Skinner is determined to grab the chance of a lifetime when he makes his Grand Prix debut at the British GP as a wildcard this weekend . The Scot has a chance to earn a full-time seat on the world stage next year after it was confirmed he will make two Moto2™ appearances for the American Racing Team in August , with the chance of more if all goes well . “ My aim has always been to go to Grand Prix ,” he said . “ It ’ s awesome now that opportunity has come about . At 20 years old , it might be a bit old going to the GP paddock . But for a British rider , doing your first GP at 20 is pretty cool . I can ’ t wait . “ It has been a little while since I rode a GP machine , but I spent enough time in my younger career riding Moto3™ bikes that it comes back fairly quickly ,” he said . “ How they feel , and the stiffness of the bikes … I ’ m going into it with an open mind . It ’ s a new experience . I ’ ll be riding the bike for the first time at Silverstone . It ’ s just a case of understanding the whole make up of everything .”
Yamaha looking to F1
Yamaha has looked toward the Formula1 paddock in a bid to increase the top speed of its M1 next year . At the beginning of June , it was revealed the Japanese factory has hired the services of Luca Marmorini , an Italian engine engineer , who time working for Ferrari ’ s F1 machines in the 90s and 2010s . Recently , Marmorini has worked externally for Aprilia on the engine for its RS-GP . The move represents a sea change for Yamaha , who has always looked within to promote engineering talent . “ The hopes are not only about this new synergy , but the way that also in Japan they probably changed their mind ,” said Massimo Meregalli , Team Manager to the factory team . “ They always work internally but now they are starting to be more open-minded and focussed on improving the bike and the results . For sure , I ’ m expecting to see some results of this new collaboration , probably , at the end of the season because they are already working on next year . But I ’ m happy and very confident .”
