Após as suas performances emocionantes no Campeonato Europeu de Superstock 600cc , o piloto romano entrou para a Moto2™ , em 2014 . Em 2015 , ele mostrou ser uma grande promessa e a mudança para a equipa Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Moto2™ , para 2016 , levou-o a ganhar o título , em 2017 . A sua mudança para o MotoGP™ com o Marc VDS foi um pouco dificultada , por uma Honda RC213V pouco potente . No entanto , a mudança para a Sepang Racing Team , apoiada por Petronas , para 2019 permitiu que ele terminasse sete vezes no Top 6 e largasse quatro vezes no primeira fila da grelha . Ele cresceu , conquistando duas poles , três vitórias e o segundo lugar geral no campeonato , em 2020 , numa moto do ano anterior . Em 2021 , viu-se condicionado por uma grave lesão no joelho , que o fez perder cinco corridas . Ele não recuperou até ao seu melhor nível depois do seu regresso . Mas Morbidelli está em alta para iniciar a temporada de 2022 e tem a última Yamaha da equipa de trabalho . Será que ele será capaz de recuperar o seu nível de 2020 ?

Off the back of exciting performances in the European Superstock 600cc Championship , the laconic Roman joined Moto2™ in 2014 . 2015 showed definite promise and a switch to Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Moto2™ team for 2016 led to him winning the title in 2017 . His move to MotoGP™ with Marc VDS was undermined by an underpowered Honda RC213V . But a switch to the Petronas-backed Sepang Racing Team for 2019 brought about seven top six finishes and four front row starts . He built on that , claiming two poles , three wins and second in the championship in 2020 on a year-old bike . 2021 was plagued by a serious knee injury , which caused him to miss five races . He was never quite the same rider upon his return . But Morbidelli is fully fit for the start of 2022 . And he has the latest Yamaha in the factory team . Can he reproduce his 2020 form ?
