The Austrian factory had set its sights on a championship challenge thanks to some tweaks to its RC16 , with Brad Binder calling the outing at Sepang “ one of the best preseason tests I ’ ve ever had – if we keep this type of progress we ’ ll be ( there ).”
There have been a number of updates to the RC16 for the 2024 season , with the suspension , engine , electronics and aerodynamics all addressed . More than that , KTM has sought out further gains by streamlining its data analysis . While the Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre has been enlisted to ensure Jack Miller is better prepared than ever .
Yet KTM ’ s challenge faded midseason . Binder and Acosta ’ s early performances suggested in the right hand the RC16 is capable of challenging the Bologna bullets but rear chatter issues due to Michelin ’ s new rear tyre compound , as well as a critical feeling with the front tyre , have been a problem which held them back . The Austrians will have to wait until 2025 to challenge Ducati for the championship .
