The Austrian factory in particular has set its sights on a championship challenge thanks to some tweaks to its RC16 , with Brad Binder calling the outing at Sepang “ one of the best preseason tests I ’ ve ever had – if we keep this type of progress we ’ ll be ( there ).”
There have been a number of updates to the RC16 during the preseason tests in Malaysia and Qatar , with the chassis , suspension , engine , electronics and aerodynamics all addressed . More than that , KTM has sought out further gains by streamlining its data analysis . While the Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre has been enlisted to ensure Jack Miller is better prepared than ever .
Displacing Ducati is no small task , with its reigning World Champion Pecco Bagnaia lowering the lap record at Sepang by 0.8s earlier this month . But KTM has made similar gains over the winter months , with all involved in the project believing they are working from a more stable base than a year ago . There is a growing feeling among KTM staff that this year ’ s RC16 could carry them to a championship challenge .
