After a disastrous 2023 , when it finished last in the Constructor ’ s Championship , Honda has upped its efforts considerably over the winter months . At the Sepang test there were more technicians present , and testing showed HRC is taking the game seriously again . “ We could see many new parts , a lot of changes inside the team , inside of Honda , and it ’ s clear they want to move on from this situation ,” said lead rider Joan Mir .
For 2024 , the RC213V was completely redesigned . The bike is much lighter than last year ’ s model . Yet is soon became clear it was not the correct direction to take , as it struggled to turn while last year ’ s huge deficit – acceleration – remained . It means HRC engineers are currently working furiously behind the scenes to bring another new bike . Yet what was tested at Misano wasn ’ t the step forward its factory riders had in mind , even if a new swingarm and aero updates were an improvement .
