The FIM Grand Prix World Championship boasts a rich history dating back to 1949 . In 2024 , it commemorates seventy-five years , coinciding with the FIM ’ s one hundred and twentieth anniversary . The 2024 FIM MotoGP™ World Championship , featuring an intense twenty-one-round schedule spanning nine months , promises to challenge both rider and machine , demanding a blend of speed , skill , and fortitude .
This year ’ s series traverses eighteen countries across four continents , commencing in Qatar in early March and concluding in Valencia , Spain , in mid-November . Among the competitors , four former and current FIM MotoGP™ Grand Prix World Champions vie for victory . Francesco Bagnaia of Italy aims to join the elite few by clinching a third consecutive title , facing competition from 2021 champion Fabio Quartararo of France , and the Spanish duo of Joan Mir and Marc Marquez , the latter a six-time champion .
However , the premier class boasts a deep pool of talent , with emerging contenders injecting excitement and unpredictability into the season . Following Qatar , the series heads to Portugal ’ s scenic Algarve region before the Grand Prix of the Americas in April and a return to Europe for round four at Jerez , Spain .
Subsequent races in France , Catalunya ( Spain ), and Italy then precede two of the most popular rounds of the year , which take place at familiar venues such as Assen in the Netherlands and the Sachsenring in Germany before a mid-season break .
Resuming with the British GP at Silverstone , the championship proceeds to Austria , Aragón ( Spain ), and San Marino . The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will then host the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysiabefore the series travels out to the East for stops in Indonesia , Japan , Australia , Thailand and Malaysia .
The season culminates in November at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo in Spain . Such an extensive and logistically challenging championship relies on committed teamwork . On behalf of the FIM , I extend gratitude to Dorna , the manufacturers , riders , teams , circuit owners , volunteers , media , officials , and the broader Road Racing Grand Prix community , including our passionate fans . I eagerly anticipate experiencing the 2024 season with you all .
