Located 30km north-east of Florence in the beautiful countryside of Tuscany , Mugello is a modern circuit with excellent facilities and a rich sense of history . Bought by Ferrari back in 1988 , the 5.245km track has been renovated to a high standard and has a growing reputation as one of the world ’ s most up-to-date , scenic and safest race circuits .
A blend of slow and fast turns with sweeping curves , long straights and off-camber corners make Mugello one of the most challenging circuits for the riders and engineers . Having hosted its first MotoGP event back in 1976 , when MotoGP™ legends Barry Sheene and Phil Read battled it out for victory in the 500cc class , with the former edging the latter by a mere 0.1s !
The venue became a permanent fixture in 1991 after extensive refurbishment , which still retained its character and thrillingly fast and flowing layout . Set within a beautiful tree lined Tuscan valley , Mugello also offers ample viewing areas for a particularly boisterous and partisan Italian crowd .
The Italian GP took on added significance in the late 90s when Valentino Rossi went on a run of memorable victories , some of which – like his MotoGP™ successes in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , and 2006 – ranked among the best of his career .

Ha ospitato per la prima volta la MotoGP™ nel 1976 , con Barry Sheene che nella classe 500 ha battuto Phil Read per appena un decimo di secondo !
Il circuito è diventato un appuntamento fisso nel 1991 , dopo un ’ ampia ristrutturazione che ne ha mantenuto le principali caratteristiche di tracciato veloce , scorrevole ed emozionante . Fra gli alberi delle colline toscane , offre al pubblico una cornice ideale , della quale gli appassionati italiani si sono sempre fatti sentire incitando i loro piloti .
Il GP d ’ Italia ha assunto un ’ importanza ancora maggiore alla fine degli anni ‘ 90 , quando Valentino Rossi ha inaugurato una serie di vittorie memorabili . Alcune , come i successi in MotoGP™ nel 2003 , 2004 , 2005 e 2006 , sono state tra le migliori della sua carriera .
