It ’ s been a tricky year so far for Ogden . Now in his third season at World Championship level , the 20-year old has been frustrated to have just one top ten finish to his name in the first nine races .
One reason is the Honda his MLav Racing Team is running hasn ’ t kept up with the brand new KTMs . “ He feels the bike has better top end but it ’ s missing some torque and lowdown grunt , which is where this engine was supposed to be stronger ,” said Team Owner Michael Laverty . “ It ’ s been a tough winter due to parts for the new bike arriving late from Honda . KTM is ahead of the curve .”
One positive for the Englishman has been the arrival of Francisco Martinez , formerly Chief Mechanic to Ayumu Sasaki , who Laverty has recruited to Ogden ’ s side of the garage for 2024 . “ He ’ s confirmed we ’ re on the same level as the top guys . Scott appreciated his straight-talking in ( preseason ). He told him to not roll off after one lap looking for the tow . Scott acknowledged he maybe needs that . Hopefully experience will pay dividends through the year .”
While results haven ’ t been ideal thus far , Ogden ’ s fighting tenth place at the Sachsenring was well-timed . And he has good memories of the British Grand Prix from a year ago , when he qualified on the front row of the grid , and fought back through the field after early disappointment to finish 17th , just 1.9s off the victor .
