Marc Marquez announced himself on the world stage with a World Championship in 2010 before stepping up to Moto2™ and overcoming early setbacks to claim the title in 2012. Promotion to MotoGP™ in 2013 delivered immediate history. Victory in his second race set the tone for a rookie World Championship, followed by a dominant title defence in 2014. After a difficult 2015, Marquez reset his approach and reclaimed the crown in 2016, then added further titles in 2017, 2018 and a near flawless 2019, sealing his eighth World Championship overall. A serious injury in 2020 triggered a long and complex recovery, with repeated setbacks across subsequent seasons. A bold move to Ducati machinery in 2024 reignited his career. Race wins returned and momentum built rapidly. Joining the factory Ducati squad in 2025, Marquez delivered a commanding campaign with 11 victories and a seventh MotoGP™ World Championship. Despite injury ending his season early, Marquez enters 2026 firmly established as the benchmark once again.
Marc Márquez behoort zonder twijfel tot de grootste namen uit de geschiedenis van de MotoGP. Sinds zijn debuut in 2013 heeft de Spanjaard records gebroken, rivaliteiten gevormd en een indrukwekkende erelijst opgebouwd. Zijn carrière leek echter abrupt tot stilstand te komen toen een zware armblessure zijn toekomst in gevaar bracht. Waar velen twijfelden aan een terugkeer op topniveau, vocht Márquez zich terug. Hij nam een nieuw risico door over te stappen naar een onafhankelijk Ducati-team en bewees in 2024 direct dat hij nog altijd tot de absolute wereldtop behoort. De overstap naar het Ducati Lenovo Team in 2025 leverde hem opnieuw een machine op waarmee hij kon strijden om de titel. Wat volgde was een dominant seizoen waarin hij zijn zevende MotoGP-wereldtitel veiligstelde en één van de grootste comebacks uit de sportgeschiedenis voltooide. Nieuwe blessures zorgden vervolgens voor tegenslag, maar ook in 2026 blijft Márquez vechten voor succes. Met zijn dubbelzege in Hongarije heeft hij opnieuw laten zien dat hij nog altijd een belangrijke factor is in de strijd om het wereldkampioenschap.
