Anticipation couldn’ t be higher for MotoGP™ in 2026 as an intriguing title fight lights up the final year of the 1000cc bikes before a switch to 850cc machinery in 2027.
Reigning World Champion Marc Marquez( Ducati Lenovo Team) started the year as favourite despite recently returning from yet another a serious shoulder injury. The early rounds told the seventime MotoGP™ champ something wasn’ t quite right. Having come back from further surgery to alleviate nerve issues, he is working on recovering some muchneeded points after missing the Barcelona GP.

Regerend wereldkampioen Marc Márquez( Ducati Lenovo Team) begon het jaar als favoriet, ondanks zijn recente terugkeer van opnieuw een zware schouderblessure. De eerste races maakten de zevenvoudig MotoGP™ kampioen duidelijk dat er iets niet helemaal in orde was. Na een nieuwe operatie om zenuwproblemen te verhelpen werkt hij nu aan een inhaalrace nadat hij de GP van Barcelona moest missen.
The year’ s biggest story to date has been the utter brilliance of Aprilia. Assen circuit specialist Marco Bezzecchi( Aprilia Racing) will be another challenger this weekend after his brilliant second half of 2025. The Italian won the first three MotoGP™ races, leading every lap in the process. Only crashes in the Thai, US and Spanish MotoGP™ Sprints have kept the rest in touch.
Surprisingly his biggest competition has come from across the garage. Jorge Martin( Aprilia Racing) has been back to his best despite a troubled preseason. Even though he missed the Sepang test through injury, the number 89 has scored three podiums from the first five rounds, including a brilliant Sprint™ / MotoGP™ race double in France.
Het meest in het oog springende verhaal van het seizoen tot nu toe is de pure klasse van Aprilia. Assen specialist Marco Bezzecchi( Aprilia Racing) zal dit weekend opnieuw een uitdager zijn na zijn indrukwekkende tweede helft van 2025. De Italiaan won de eerste drie MotoGP™ races van het seizoen en leidde daarbij iedere ronde. Alleen crashes in de MotoGP™ Sprints van Thailand, de Verenigde Staten en Spanje hielden zijn concurrenten binnen bereik.
Opvallend genoeg komt de meeste concurrentie uit dezelfde pitbox. Jorge Martin( Aprilia Racing) is ondanks een moeizame voorbereiding terug op zijn beste niveau. Hoewel hij door een blessure de Sepang test miste, behaalde nummer 89 drie podiumplaatsen in de eerste vijf races, waaronder een indrukwekkende Sprint™ / MotoGP™ dubbel in Frankrijk.
