WELCOME
Selamat datang and a warm welcome to the PETRONAS GRAND PRIX OF MALAYSIA 2022 (“ MotoGP™ Malaysia ”). After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic , Sepang International Circuit (“ SIC ”) is back on the MotoGP™ calendar and we welcome everyone back to this penultimate round of MotoGP™ 2022 , in line with the # WelcomeHome theme this year .
This year also marks the first year of PETRONAS as the Title Sponsor for the Grand Prix . We extend our appreciation to PETRONAS and we believe that together , we can reenergise and bring the event to a higher level for the benefit of the Malaysians and the motorsports fans around the world .
Since it was first held in Sepang in 1999 , MotoGP™ Malaysia has grown in scale and status making it largest motorsports event in Malaysia . MotoGP™ Malaysia has not only delivered the thrills of racing on track , it has played a significant role in growing the sport and setting the stage for the emergence of Malaysian talents , many whom have already experienced success internationally . We hope that our home-grown talents namely Syarifuddin Azman , Kasma Daniel , Azroy Hakeem and Khairul Idham Pawi who will be participating as wildcard entries for Moto3™ and Moto2™ categories will provide the additional impetus for Malaysians to attend and cheer them on the grid . Sports unite people and I believe it is one of the reasons that fans keep coming back to Sepang .

We have gone through great lengths to make several key improvements to this year ’ s event with intensified engagement on social media that includes several exciting contests for fans such as the ‘ money can ’ t buy experience ’ of the Grid Walk and the Safety Car Ride . We are also giving away Yamaha NVX and Y15ZR with SIC limited edition livery to two lucky draw winners through our exciting # MalaysianGP2022 Mega Lucky Draw contest . At the same time , we rolled out a new lifestyle offering and a curated festival experience that combines music , food and outdoor culture with unique activations . We hope this will attract a wider spectrum of audience as they can experience more than just the race alone .
But this weekend is predominantly about racing - the championship titles for MotoGP™ and Moto2™ are still up for grabs and we may see these being decided at Sepang . No doubt , fans and spectators alike will be treated to another thrilling weekend . I would like to thank all fans especially to those who have travelled long distances to be here which serve as a reminder of the importance of our efforts to further enhance your experience with us .
To all riders and teams , I wish you all the best and hope you have a great week , both on and off the track . My most sincere appreciation to DORNA , FIM , MAM , PETRONAS , key partners , officials , members of the media and of course , to our dedicated SIC staff and volunteers , who have worked tirelessly to deliver MotoGP™ Malaysia with the standards and excellence that are expected for this world-class event . Last but not least , our utmost gratitude to the Government of Malaysia , in particular the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Youth and Sports for supporting this event .
