Considering the struggles experienced by Cal Crutchlow in 2011 , the year of his debut MotoGP™ campaign , it ’ s remarkable he has since gone on to become Great Britain ’ s most successful premier class exponent since Barry Sheene . Big things were expected of the 2009 World Supersport Championship in 2009 . But he could place no higher than 12th overall in the year of his MotoGP™ debut . But he enjoyed podium success at Tech3 Yamaha and Ducati ’ s factory team before a switch to LCR Honda led to three famous victories , at Brno in and Australia in 2016 and Argentina in 2018 . He retired from full-time racing at the end of 2020 , and has since joined Yamaha as its official test rider . He rejoins the series as Andrea Dovizioso ’ s replacement for the final six races of 2022 .
