Inizialmente conosciuto come il fratellastro di Valentino Rossi , è cresciuto fino ad arrivare a un soffio dal titolo Moto2™ nel 2020 . Ciò gli è valso un posto in MotoGP™ . La sua militanza in Moto3™ era stata ridotta , con il campionato Moto2™ europeo a fargli da trampolino di lancio nel 2015 . I costanti progressi sono stati messi in discussione da un grave infortunio alla spalla sinistra , registrato a Le Mans nel 2017 . Ha ottenuto una vittoria in gara nel 2018 e due nel 2019 . La conferma definitiva nel 2020 , quando ha finalmente lottato per un titolo iridato perso per appena nove punti . Costante nella stagione di debutto in MotoGP™ , ha raggiunto due piazzamenti in top ten . Ci si aspetta di più da lui in questo 2022 in sella a una Ducati GP22 full factory .

The gangly Italian was initially best known for being Valentino Rossi ’ s half-brother . But his methodical improvement in the past three seasons not only brought him within a whisker of the 2020 Moto2™ title ; it earned him seat in MotoGP™ , too . After only limited success on Moto3™ machinery , Luca shot to prominence in the European Moto2™ category in 2015 . Steady progress was undermined by a serious left shoulder injury , sustained at Le Mans in 2017 . He scored one race win in 2018 and two in 2019 but 2020 was when he finally fought for a title and lost out by just nine points . He enjoyed a steady debut season in MotoGP™ , scoring two top ten finishes . But more will be expected of him in 2022 , when he has a full factory Ducati GP22 at his disposal .
