Second overall in the manufacturers’ standings in 2024 but still without a Grand Prix win since 2022, Austrian manufacturer KTM retain Brad Binder and his invaluable insight into the RC16, while promoting Pedro Acosta into the factory squad.‘ El Tiburón’ hit headlines last year with his podiums, pole at Motegi, off-track charisma and straight-talking attitude. It is a line-up full of promise, but the wait for a dry Grand Prix win continues for the Austrian marque.
In the post-season test at Barcelona, KTM introduced a new exhaust system and worked on throttle connection to make power delivery smoother and reduce wheelspin. The exhausts also featured a valve for the first time, potentially aimed at improving braking. Small steps are often what it takes in the world’ s most competitive sport, and KTM have shifted strategy, focusing on refinements rather than bringing a host of new parts to each test.
An aerodynamic update after the summer break made the RC16 less critical on the front end, helping Acosta become a regular podium contender.
