Everyone thought Ai Ogura would challenge for the 2024 Moto2™ crown, but few would have put money on him winning it before the season began. But win it he did, with brilliant performances along the way matched by impressive consistency. With that, he became the first Asia Talent Cup alumnus to take a World Championship, and the first Japanese Grand Prix champion since Hiroshi Aoyama in the 250cc class in 2009. Ogura’ s form last year, coupled with what we had already seen in Moto3™, marked him as a quality rider – and Trackhouse agreed, signing him up for the premier class. His opening weekend showed he settled in very quickly. Can he produce more of the same in the second half of the season?
