There’ s another session of free practice, so essentially track time, before qualifying starts. The Q1 session gives the riders in it a second shot at moving through to Q2 and the pole position shootout. The top two in Q1 move through. The rest have their grid positions decided, from P13 down.
Then it’ s time for Q2 and the fight for pole. It usually goes to the wire, and riders will usually do two runs. They’ ll head out on a lap to warm up their tyres, go for a hot lap, and then a cool down lap on the way back in. The top three at the end are the front row starters, and they’ ll head for parc ferme to celebrate.
Then, Moto3™ and Moto2™ qualify, before it’ s Sprint time. The MotoGP™ Sprint is the first race action in the premier class, and half distance in comparison to the main Grand Prix on Sunday. The grid is the same for the Sprint and the GP race, and the action is just as spectacular. Seeing the lights go out twice on one weekend adds two huge spikes of awesome adrenaline to the event.

Bevor das Qualifying beginnt, gibt es eine weitere Einheit freies Training – also schlichtweg Zeit auf der Strecke. Das Q1 bietet den dort antretenden Fahrern eine zweite Chance, ins Q2 und damit in den Kampf um die Pole-Position einzuziehen. Die beiden Schnellsten des Q1 kommen weiter. Für die übrigen Fahrer steht damit ihre Startposition fest( ab Platz 13 aufwärts).
Dann folgt das Q2 und der Kampf um die Pole-Position. Oft bleibt es bis zur letzten Sekunde spannend; meist absolvieren die Fahrer zwei Runs. Sie fahren eine Runde, um die Reifen aufzuwärmen, absolvieren eine schnelle Runde(„ Hot Lap“) und fahren anschließend eine Auslaufrunde zurück an die Box. Die drei Erstplatzierten starten aus der ersten Reihe und begeben sich zur Feier in den Parc Fermé.
Danach folgen die Qualifyings der Moto3 und Moto2, bevor der Sprint ansteht. Der MotoGP-Sprint ist das erste Rennen der Königsklasse und umfasst die halbe Distanz des Grand Prix am Sonntag. Die Startaufstellung ist für Sprint und Hauptrennen identisch, und die Action ist ebenso spektakulär. Dass an einem Wochenende gleich zweimal die Startampel ausgeht, sorgt für zwei enorme Adrenalinschübe bei der Veranstaltung.
