Moto3™ EMILIA ROMAGNA PREVIEW
It is possible that in years to come 2021 will be remembered for the arrival of Grand Prix racing ’ s new sensation Pedro Acosta , among other things . The 17-year old rookie has taken the Moto3™ class by storm , racking up five victories in the first ten race to command a 53-point championship lead .
It ’ s been quite the ride until now . Having scored a fine second place in his debut Grand Prix , the Red Bull Ajo KTM rider then amazed the watching world by winning his second – and that was after he was handed a pit lane start . From there , he won last lap battles at Portimao and Jerez brilliantly , before adding further triumphs at the Sachsenring and Red Bull Ring .
But from the Austrian GP , Acosta hasn ’ t managed to rekindle his early-season form . In that time he has scored a best finish of fourth . All the while , Dennis Foggia has come into the best form of his career . The Italian has finished on the podium for five straight races , with victories at Aragon and Misano helping to reduce Acosta ’ s lead to just 30 points . How Acosta reacts to Foggia ’ s pressure this weekend will determine just how good the teenager is .
It hasn ’ t been all about him , however . Sergio Garcia sits third overall after scoring three excellent victories this year . But a painful free practice crash in Austin bruised his left kidney and put him out of the race , ending his championship hopes .
