Nell ’ era recente del dominio di Marc Marquez è stato Andrea Dovizioso a rendere la vita difficile allo spagnolo . Molto considerevole il suo passaggio in MotoGP™ fino a lottare con regolarità per diventare campione del mondo . Un difficile 2020 lo ha portato a lasciare Ducati alla fine della stagione e a prendersi un periodo sabbatico dal mondo delle gare . A Misano è tornato in pista al posto di Franco Morbidelli nel team Petronas SRT Yamaha .
