The only manufacturer to prevent a Ducati clean sweep in 2024, Aprilia took Grand Prix victory in the hands of Maverick Viñales in the USA whilst also taking seven Sprint podiums. With Viñales moving to KTM and Aleix Espargaro retiring, a new line-up is a heavyweight one – reigning World Champion Jorge Martin brings the # 1 to the Noale factory whilst Marco Bezzecchi has the pride of putting the Italian flag on the Italian machine, the first full-time factory Aprilia rider from Italy since 2021. Despite the highlights of the COTA win and Sprint success, it was a challenging season overall for Aprilia, who secured the bronze medal in the manufacturers’ standings. Already, the 2025 RS-GP is a step forward, with Jorge Martin transitioning over and hailing the front-end feeling, helped by new downwash ducts. It’ s early stages but after the acquisition of tech guru Fabiano Sterlacchini from KTM, the Italian manufacturer seek an improvement and to lead the charge against the Ducati onslaught.
Martin’ s move likewise brings a new face and fresh ideas to the technical side: Daniele Romagnoli, a long-time Ducati crew chief, follows‘ The Martinator’ to Aprilia and with that, a wealth of knowledge. That combined with existing RS- GP insight by Bezzecchi’ s crew chief Francesco Venturato, ex-KTM and Ducati engineer Sterlacchini and the same team management of Paolo Bonora, will promise much to give in 2025.
De enige fabriek die Ducati kon afhouden van totale dominantie in 2024 was Aprilia, met de Grand Prixoverwinning van Maverick Viñales in de VS en zeven sprintpodiums. Nu Viñales naar KTM vertrekt en Aleix Espargaro stopt, is de nieuw line-up er een met zwaargewichten. Regerend wereldkampioen Jorge Martin brengt de # 1 naar de Noale-fabriek, terwijl aan Marco Bezzecchi de eer toevalt de Italiaanse vlag op de Italiaanse machine te zetten, de eerste fulltime Aprilia-fabrieksrijder uit Italië sinds 2021. Ondanks de hoogtepunten van de COTA-overwinning en het sprintsucces, was het over het geheel genomen een uitdagend seizoen voor Aprilia. In de fabrikantenstrijd belandde de fabriek op de derde plaats. De 2025 RS-GP is nu al een stap vooruit. Na de komst van Jorge Martin prees hij het gevoel van de voorkant van de machine, geholpen door de nieuwe aerodynamica gericht op bochtensnelheid. Het is nog in een vroeg stadium maar na het werven van techgoeroe Fabiano Sterlacchini van KTM, werkt de Italiaanse fabriek aan een verbetering en gaat voorop in de aanval op de Ducati-dominantie.
Het vertrek van Martin brengt ook een nieuw gezicht en frisse ideeën naar de technische kant: Daniele Romagnoli, die lange tijd crewchief was bij Ducati, volgt‘ The Martinator’ naar Aprilia en neemt een schat aan kennis mee. Gecombineerd met de kennis en ervaring van de RS-GP van Bezzecchi’ s hoofdmonteur Francesco Venturato, ex-KTM- en Ducati-ingenieur Sterlacchini en hetzelfde teammanagement van Paolo Bonora, belooft dit een hoop op te leveren in 2025.
