The first Grand Prix winner from Thailand becomes the first MotoGP rider from Thailand in 2025. From the Asia Talent Cup up the Road to MotoGP – via a top ten at his home GP in a single Moto3 wildcard – Somkiat Chantra then made some sizeable impressions in Moto2, winning two races and taking a slew of podiums. Now, he’ s making more history as he joins the premier class. But he’ s not just here for that, he’ s also here to go fast. Alongside former teammate Ai Ogura and Fermin Aldeguer, there’ s Rookie of the Year up for grabs and a whole lot more in MotoGP this year. And to top it all off, he’ ll make his debut on home turf at Buriram. We can already see the now customary Chantra grin.
De eerste Grand Prix-winnaar uit Thailand wordt de eerste MotoGP-rijder uit Thailand in 2025. Van de Asia Talent Cup en de Road to MotoGP, via een top tien in zijn enige Moto3- wildcard-optreden in zijn thuis-GP, kwam Somkiat Chantra in Moto2 terecht waar hij een verrassende indruk maakte, twee races won en een flink aantal podiums behaalde. Nu hij in de koningsklasse gaat rijden, schrijft hij weer geschiedenis. Maar dat is niet het enige wat hem interesseert, hij wil ook heel snel zijn. Naast voormalig teamgenoot Ai Ogura en Fermin Aldeguer, maakt hij dit jaar kans op de Rookie of the Yeartitel en veel meer moois in MotoGP. En om het nog mooier te maken, beleefde hij zijn debuut op zijn thuiscircuit in Buriram. We zien de gebruikelijke Chantra-grijns nu al op zijn gezicht.
