Without question, Yamaha has the biggest rebuilding job ahead of the 2026 MotoGP season. Last year marked the end of the legendary YZR M1 inline four engine, with persistent rear grip issues convincing the factory to switch to a new V4 project.“ When you have to catch up, you need to be brave and bold,” said Managing Director Paolo Pavesio.“ This is why the decision to shift to V4 configuration in‘ 26 was taken. This bike has more potential than the one we raced in 2025.”
Getting the new machine competitive was always expected to take time. Early appearances late in 2025, with test rider Augusto Fernandez, effectively combined the new engine with the old M1 chassis. Over the winter, Yamaha introduced major changes ahead of testing at Sepang International Circuit. Technical Director Max Bartolini confirmed updates arrived for“ the chassis, swingarm, fairing, engine and other details.”
Even so, Yamaha riders continued making major set up changes throughout the Sepang test, showing the factory is still searching for a stable base package. Team Manager Massimo Meregalli described the season as a two stage process.“ We are starting from zero almost,” he admitted.“ In the first one we’ ll try to get used to the new bike in a kind of learning process. Then in the second, for sure we expect Alex( Rins) and Fabio to gradually improve their results.”
Kontinuita je často klíčová a to je něco, co Yamaha v roce 2026 se svým jezdcem má, jelikož jak mistr světa z roku 2021 Fabio Quartararo, tak Alex Rins zůstanou u výrobce z Iwaty. Po náročném roce 2025 se však rýsují změny: přechod z řadového čtyřválce na motor V4. Yamaha má v tomto sportu bohatou historii s 245 vítězstvími a více než 500 umístěními na stupních vítězů, ačkoli její poslední vítězství v Německu bylo před třemi lety. Ačkoli je rok 2022 již vzdálenou vzpomínkou, japonský výrobce čelí svým výzvám čelem a v zákulisí to není jiné. Lin Jarvis opustil svou pozici a nahradil ho Paolo Pavesio. Po dvou sezónách bez specializovaného týmu Yamaha také posílila svou pozici s příchodem Prima Pramac Racing, která se k japonské značce letos připojila. Tým vede zkušený jezdec Jack Miller a trojnásobný mistr WorldSBK Toprak Razgatliouglu. Augusto Fernandez je také oficiálním testovacím jezdcem Yamahy, což dokazuje, že se Yamaha snaží využít všechny své silné stránky k návratu do popředí.
