Everyone expected Ai Ogura to be a contender for the 2024 Moto2 crown, but few would have put money on him winning it before the season began. But win it he did, with some brilliant performances along the way and impressive consistency throughout. With that, he became the first Asia Talent Cup alumnus to win a World Championship, and the first Japanese Grand Prix champion since Hiroshi Aoyama in the 250cc class in 2009. Ogura’ s form last year, combined with what we’ ve already seen from him and his earlier showings in Moto3, speak to a high-quality rider – and Trackhouse agreed, signing him up for the premier class. His opening weekend showed he settled in quickly. Can he deliver more of the same in the second half of the season?
