Marc Marquez’ s departure at the end of 2023 marked a major turning point for Honda HRC. The 2024 season proved to be a rebuilding year as the team shifted its mentality and looked to the future.
Like Yamaha, Honda have lost ground to the revitalised European manufacturers, but they are not giving up. 2020 World Champion Joan Mir, Luca Marini, Johann Zarco, and Thailand’ s Somkiat Chantra form a determined rider line-up, with Zarco’ s P8 at Buriram standing as their best result in 2024.
Behind the scenes, changes are afoot. Honda have recruited former Aprilia technical director Romano Albesiano, who played a key role at Noale from 2013. He replaces Ken Kawauchi, who moves to the test team, which also gains a new addition in the form of ex-GP winner Aleix Espargaró.
With both Albesiano and Espargaró bringing Aprilia knowledge, Honda hope this infusion of experience will help turn the tide. The team has been conducting private testing in Thailand and will debut a fresh livery in 2025. No stone is being left unturned in their bid to return to the top.
