Second overall in the manufacturers’ standings in 2024 but still without a Grand Prix win since 2022, Austrian manufacturer KTM retain Brad Binder and his insight into the RC16, while promoting Pedro Acosta into the factory squad.‘ El Tiburón’ made headlines last year with his podiums and pole at Motegi, as well as his offtrack charisma and straight-talking attitude.
It’ s a line-up with all the ingredients for success, but it’ s been a long wait for a dry Grand Prix win. At the post-season test in Barcelona, KTM brought a new set of exhausts and have been focusing on throttle connection— aiming to smooth out power delivery and reduce wheelspin. The new system features an exhaust valve for the first time, potentially improving braking stability.
Small steps are often the key in the world’ s most competitive sport, and KTM have focused on refinement rather than flooding tests with new components— a contrast to previous strategies. Continuity also plays a role: Pedro Acosta retains Paul Trevathan as his crew chief, moving with him from Tech3.
KTM HAVE FOCUSED ON REFINEMENT RATHER THAN FLOODING TESTS WITH NEW COMPONENTS.
