2008 und 2009 fuhr Nakagami in der Klasse bis 125ccm , doch sein Durchburch gelang ihm erst 2013 in der Moto2™-Klasse , als er fünf Mal auf das Podest fuhr . Sein Wechsel ins Idemitsu Honda Team Asia im Jahr 2014 war erst mal nicht von Erfolg gekrönt , doch seine Siege bei der Dutch TT 2016 und beim British-Grand-Prix überzeugten schließlich die HRC , ihn 2018 in die MotoGP™ zu holen . In seinem Debüt-Jahr holte er 33 Punkte , ein Jahr später , 2019 , dann schon 74 Zähler - und das obwohl er sich ab dem Assen-GP mit einer Schulterverletzung herumschlug . 2020 fuhr er in den ersten zehn Saisonrennen immer in die Top-Ten . 2021 konnte Nakagami vor allem aufgrund technischer Probleme und einer nicht konkurrenzfähigen Honda lediglich einen vierten Platz als bestes Ergebnis holen . 2022 bleibt er bei LCR Honda und hofft mit der neuen Honda wieder zur Spitze aufschließen zu können .

Nakagami spent two years in the 125cc category in 2008 and 2009 , but really came into his own in Moto2™ in 2013 , when he secured five podium finishes . A move to the Idemitsu Honda Team Asia squad for 2014 didn ’ t bring instant success . But victories at the 2016 Dutch TT and the 2017 British Grand Prix convinced HRC to promote him to the MotoGP™ class in 2018 . He scored 33 points that year and 74 in 2019 despite carrying a shoulder from the Dutch TT . Nakagami arrived as a MotoGP™ force in 2020 however , scoring top ten finishes in each of the first ten races . He failed to continue that form the following year , as a variety of issues with an uncompetitive machine saw him score a single best result of fourth . It hasn ’ t been easy in the first half of 2022 , but Nakagami has been Honda ’ s most consistent performer .
