Mit nur 19-Jahren stand die Karriere des Franzosen Fabio Quartararo bereits auf der Kippe . Doch als er Mitte des Jahres 2018 in der Moto2™-Klasse seinen ersten - und bis da hin einzigen - Grand- Prix-Sieg feierte , überzeugte er das Petronas Sepang Racing Team , welches neu in die MotoGP™- Klasse einstieg , auf ihn zu setzen . Ab dann ging es für den FIM Moto3™ Weltmeister von 2013 und 2014 steil bergauf : Als Königsklasse-Rookie holte er nicht nur sieben Podeste und sechs Pole-Positions , sondern war auch einer der härtesten Konkurrenten von Marc Marquez . Yamaha- Piloten hatten 2020 gegen Ende der Saison mit Motor-Problemen zu kämpfen , worunter auch der Franzose litt . Doch für 2021 wurde er als Nachfolger von Valentino Rossi ins Werksteam von Yamaha berufen und das beflügelte Fabio Quartararo noch einmal umso mehr : Er gewann fünf Rennen und wurde zwei Läufe vor Saisonende der MotoGP™ Weltmeister 2021 . Diese Saison fährt er erneut im Yamaha-Werksteam und hat die Mission Titelverteidigung auf seiner Schulter lasten .

At just 19 years of age , Quartararo was in danger of becoming another case of massive talent unfulfilled . But his first – and only – grand prix win in the Moto2™ class in Barcelona midway through 2018 convinced the new Petronas-backed Sepang Racing Team to place him in MotoGP™ . From there the 2013 and 2014 FIM Moto3™ Junior World Champion never looked back , scoring seven podiums , six pole positions and pushing Marc Marquez hardest in his rookie MotoGP™ year in 2019 . Yamaha ’ s engine woes saw his 2020 challenge crumble in the autumn . But promotion to Yamaha ’ s Factory team for 2021 in Valentino Rossi ’ s place gave Fabio impetus . He wrapped up the 2021 MotoGP™ World Championship with two races to go thanks to five wins and some brilliant performances and will be seeking to retain his crown with the same team this year .
