En la reciente era de dominio de Marc Márquez , Andrea Dovizioso fue el que más logró llevar al límite al octocampeón . El 2019 marcó el tercer año consecutivo en el que el veterano italiano terminó subcampeón mundial de MotoGP™ . Esto no debería sorprender a nadie que haya visto a Dovizioso ganar el Campeonato del Mundo de 125cc en 2004 o presionar a Jorge Lorenzo en las luchas por el título de 250cc en 2006 y 2007 . Pero su evolución en MotoGP™ hasta ser un aspirante habitual fue notable . Un año 2020 lleno de problemas le llevó a dejar Ducati y a tomarse un tiempo sabático . Corrió las últimas cinco carreras de 2021 y ha regresado para disputar una campaña completa junto a RNF Yamaha con una moto de fábrica completa .

In the recent era of Marc Marquez dominance , it was Andrea Dovizioso that pushed the serial champion hardest . 2019 marked the third consecutive year in which the Italian veteran finished runner-up in the MotoGP™ standings . This should come as no surprise to anyone watching Dovizioso win the 2004 125cc World Championship or push Jorge Lorenzo in the 2006 and 2007 250cc title fights . But his turnaround from MotoGP™ ‘ nearly man ’ to regular challenger was remarkable . A troubled 2020 led to him quitting Ducati and taking time out from racing . Yet he still raced the final five races of 2021 for Yamaha after Maverick Viñales ’ surprise departure and is ready for a full campaign with RNF Yamaha on full factory bikes for the year ahead .
