Tras sus emocionantes actuaciones en el Campeonato Europeo de Superstock 600cc , el piloto romano se unió a Moto2™ en 2014 . En 2015 se mostró muy prometedor y el cambio al equipo Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Moto2™ para 2016 le llevó a ganar el título en 2017 . Su paso a MotoGP™ con el Marc VDS se vio lastrado por una Honda RC213V poco potente . Sin embargo , el paso al equipo Sepang Racing Team , respaldado por Petronas , de cara a 2019 le permitió terminar siete veces en el Top 6 y salir cuatro veces en primera fila . Creció sobre esos resultados , firmando dos ‘ poles ’, tres victorias y el segundo puesto en la general del campeonato en 2020 con una moto del año anterior . En 2021 se vio condicionado por una grave lesión de rodilla , que le hizo perderse cinco carreras . No recuperó su mejor nivel tras su regreso . Pero Morbidelli está en plena forma para iniciar la temporada 2022 y cuenta con la última Yamaha del equipo oficial . ¿ Podrá recobrar su nivel de 2020 ?

Off the back of exciting performances in the European Superstock 600cc Championship , the laconic Roman joined Moto2™ in 2014 . 2015 showed definite promise and a switch to Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Moto2™ team for 2016 led to him winning the title in 2017 . His move to MotoGP™ with Marc VDS was undermined by an underpowered Honda RC213V . But a switch to the Petronas-backed Sepang Racing Team for 2019 brought about seven top six finishes and four front row starts . He built on that , claiming two poles , three wins and second in the championship in 2020 on a year-old bike . 2021 was plagued by a serious knee injury , which caused him to miss five races . He was never quite the same rider upon his return . But Morbidelli is fully fit for the start of 2022 . And he has the latest Yamaha in the factory team . Half way into the year , the Italian has struggled to reproduce his 2020 form .
