This year has been a class battle between two team-mates . Remy Gardner began the year solidly , picking up podium finishes in four of the first five races . And from the Italian Grand Prix he has been sensational . He coolly beat Fernandez in contests at Mugello and Barcelona before destroying the field at the Sachsenring with a commanding victory . His latest victory at Silverstone hands him a commanding 44-point advantage .
But Fernandez has proved to be one of the most exceptional Moto2™ rookies in the history of the class . The Spaniard picked up four impressive victories in Portugal , France , Holland and Austira . There was little to choose between him and Gardner before his costly fall out of the German Grand Prix , which now leaves him some way in arrears . He hasn ’ t had a weak track yet , however , and should continue his podium form as the year progresses .
It hasn ’ t only been about the Ajo duo , however . Marco Bezzecchi sits third overall after a consistent campaign to date . Bezzecchi has finally stepped up in the past three races , challenging for victory in two of them . Sam Lowes started the year on fire , racking up back-to-back victories in Qatar and a fine third place at Jerez . But crashes have been costly , with the Briton falling out of victory contention at Portimao , Le Mans and Mugello . He is still in the hunt – just .
