El piloto italiano era conocido inicialmente por ser el hermanastro de Valentino Rossi . Pero su metódico progreso en los dos últimos años no solo le llevó a quedarse a las puertas del título de Moto2™ en 2020 ; también le valió un asiento en MotoGP™ . Luca saltó a la fama en la categoría europea de Moto2™ en 2015 . Su progreso constante se vio mermado por una grave lesión en el hombro izquierdo , sufrida en Le Mans en 2017 . Consiguió una victoria en 2018 y dos en 2019 , pero en 2020 fue cuando , finalmente , luchó por el título mundial de la clase intermedia . Se ha estrenado en MotoGP™ en 2021 con el SKY VR46 Avintia .
The gangly Italian was initially best known for being Valentino Rossi ’ s half-brother . But his methodical improvement over the past two years not only brought him within a whisker of the 2020 Moto2™ title ; it earned him seat in MotoGP™ , too . After only limited success on Moto3™ machinery , he shot to prominence in the European Moto2™ category in 2015 . Steady progress was undermined by a serious left shoulder injury , sustained at Le Mans in 2017 . He scored one race win in 2018 and two in 2019 but 2020 was when he finally fought for a title . He enters MotoGP™ in 2020 with Esponsorama Racing Ducati .
