Moto2™ ALGARVE PREVIEW

This year ’ s Moto2™ World Championship will be remembered for an intense inter-team battle between two team-mates : Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez . The Australian began the year solidly , picking up podium finishes in four of the first five races . And from the Italian Grand Prix he was sensational . He coolly beat Fernandez in contests at Mugello and Barcelona before destroying the field at the Sachsenring with a commanding victory . His latest victory at Silverstone handed him a commanding 44-point advantage .
But Fernandez has proved to be one of the most exceptional Moto2™ rookies in the history of the class . The Spaniard picked up four impressive victories in Portugal , France , Holland and Austria before winning three on the bounce at Aragon , Misano and COTA . But a crash out of the lead at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix handed the initiative to Gardner once again , after the Australian ’ s crash in Texas . He faces his first match point this weekend .
It hasn ’ t only been about the Ajo duo , however . Marco Bezzecchi sits third overall after a consistent campaign to date . Bezzecchi has been nursing a left knee injury this past month , but still managed a strong third in Austin . Sam Lowes started the year on fire , racking up back-to-back victories in Qatar and a fine third place at Jerez . But crashes have been costly , with the Briton falling out of victory contention at Portimao , Le Mans and Mugello , but racking up a victory at Emilia Romagna , last time out .
