2017 WATER RESOURCES Telangana enjoyed a huge part of the natural resources. Most of the 10 districts of the region cover more than 49% of green cover of Andhra region. In water resources, it has 68% of Krishna basin catchment area, and 78% of the Godavari river basin catchment. Proper management and utilization of existing water resource infrastructure, and reaching the least in drought- prone area will be the major challenge for the governing system. Water disputes within Indian states are well known. The Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal shares water with Indian states Maharashtra (560TMC), Karnataka (700TMC), and Andhra Pradesh (800TMC). Within Andhra Pradesh, 68.5% of Krishna catchment is lying in the Telangana region, but allocation of water for Dams and Reservoirs in Telangana Nagarjuna Sagar Dam (Built in 1967): Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is a masonry dam on the Krishna River at Nagarjuna Sagar in the border of Nalgonda district of Telangana State and Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh State. Nagarjuna Sagar dam is one of the earliest ones of India and supplies water for irrigation purposes and hydro power generation to the state. Nizam Sagar Dam (Built in 1923): Nizam Sagar is a reservoir constructed across the Manjira River (tributary of the Godavari River) between Achampet and Banjapalle villages of the Nizamabad district in Telangana. Dams on Godavari River Ramagundam Dam: Ramagundam Dam is an irrigation project on the Godavari River in Karimnagar District in Telangana. 9
