F OR M ATION Twelve Seminarians Instituted as Lectors and Acolytes SHMS Men on Track for the Priesthood Jamie Gualdoni THE MOST REVEREND PAUL J. BRADLEY, Bishop of the Diocese of Kalamazoo, installed 12 candidates into the ministries of lector and acolyte in a special Mass on October 25, 2019. Fellow seminarians, family, and friends were present for the Mass in Sacred Heart Major Seminary’s main chapel. The Ministry of Lector is a required step towards Holy Orders. The man instituted does not make a permanent commitment towards ordination, but he does make a permanent commitment to proclaim the faith. Acolytes are appointed to serve the Church on a stable basis by assisting priests and deacons in liturgical celebrations and distributing Holy Commu- nion. An acolyte may also instruct those who temporarily assist the priest or deacon and assist with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. SHMS students instituted for the Ministry of Acolyte include: Miguel Colunga-Santoyo (Diocese of Lansing), Ryan Eggenberger (Archdiocese of Detroit), Jeremiah Hahn (Diocese of Steubenville), Mark Martin II (Diocese of Lansing), David Pinto (Diocese of Kalamazoo), Benjamin Rivard (Diocese of Marquette), and Kevin Wojciechowski (Diocese of Saginaw). New lectors are: Tyler Arens (Diocese of Lansing), Christian Flagstadt (Di- ocese of Marquette), Jose Flores-Ugalde (Diocese of Madison), Jacob Thom- as (Diocese of Kalamazoo), and Brandon Yanni (Diocese of Marquette). 10 Sacred Heart Major Seminary | Mosaic | Winter 2020
