As a Deacon , I most look forward to administering the sacrament of Baptism . To be the instrument through which someone is claimed for Christ , washed clean from original sin , and filled with divine life — how awesome is that !
Formation at Sacred Heart has helped me realize that the mission of spreading the Gospel is beyond me , I do not have all the answers , capabilities , time , or energy yet . I also realized that Christ does have these things , and by remaining faithful to him in prayer and action I will bring his love and presence to the people I am called to serve . Dependence on Christ is radically freeing .

I am looking forward to the joy of knowing that I am in a relationship of celibate intimacy with the Lord and that I have publicly committed to it . I am also looking forward to preaching !
Sacred Heart has furnished me with an arsenal of learning , experiences , and practical know-how for ministry , but the most important thing I have learned is how to calmly place my trust in the Lord and lean on others when I am in over my head — which is exactly how a large portion of ministry will be no matter how well-prepared you are !

After my diaconate ordination , I am looking forward to exercising my diaconate ministerial role in serving the people and clergy of the Archdiocese of Detroit in the new Families of Parishes structure . Receiving the sacrament of Holy Orders will consecrate my heart in joining the mission of Jesus as a missionary disciple .
The time of formation here at SHMS has prepared me for a life of obedient service according to the will of God . The seminary formation has been “ on-theministry ” training , if you will , in which I am formed to a life of priestly ministry imitating the sacred heart of Jesus .

As a deacon , I am most looking forward to proclaiming the Gospel and preaching . Proclaiming the Gospel stands at the core of what Christ commanded us to do as Christians , and ordained ministers hold a privileged opportunity to proclaim the word during the liturgy . I look forward to sharing Christ ’ s love and the truths of the faith with the people of God .
My time at Sacred Heart has prepared me for ordination through both academic classes , which have helped me better understand Scripture and Church doctrine , and through helping me grow spiritually and humanly into the man God desires me to be . The priests and faculty at the seminary have continually challenged me to remain open to the work of the Spirit and to humbly embrace the vocation God desires for me .

I am most looking forward to preaching the word of God during Mass and in other contexts . For me , preparing and giving homilies is a prayerful , joyful experience in which Jesus teaches me about how he speaks to his beloved people .
Formation at Sacred Heart has really helped me gain a full , balanced perspective of what it means to be an ordained minister . Because I have gained this perspective , though I still have much to learn , I feel confident in responding “ yes ” to God ’ s call .

One of the things I am most looking forward to as a transitional deacon is to bring healing , comfort , and hope to the people of God who have lost a loved one . The ministry of presence in those intimate and trying times is at the heart of what it means to be Jesus to others .
The formation I have received at Sacred Heart has been exceptional . Through the years of classes , formation meetings , spiritual direction sessions , fraternity with other seminarians , and participating in daily Mass , I am eager to do the best I can to bring souls to Christ .
