Dr . Patricia Cooney Hathaway , professor of spirituality and systematic theology , was a responder to the presentation “ Unfolding Teresa of Avila ’ s Understanding or Prayer ,” Marygrove College , Detroit , MI , October 15 ; gave a weekend conference , “ Seasons of Life and their Interface with Spirituality ,” Manresa Retreat Center , November 3-4 and published “ Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit : Therese of Lisieux ,” Human Development .
Dr . Daniel Keating , professor of theology , co-authored Athanasius and His Legacy : Trinitarian-Incarnational Soteriology and Its Reception , co-author Thomas G . Weinandy ( Minneapolis : Fortress Press , 2017 ); contributed two articles , “ The Patristic Background to Original Sin ” and “ Justification and Sanctification in Scripture and the Church Fathers ,” Evangelical-Catholic Dialogue , Justified in Jesus Christ , 2017 ; and spoke on “ Ecumenism : The Call to Work for Christian Unity ,” Hillsdale College , Hillsdale , MI , September , 28 .
David J . Conrad , part-time theology instructor , offered a three-part presentation entitled “ Jesus : The Image of the Invisible God ” for St . Fabian Parish ’ s Lent series , March 7 , 14 , & 21 .
Dr . Philip Blosser published a translation of Conscience : Phenomena and Theories , by H . G . Stoker ( University of Notre Dame Press , 2018 ); reviewed Luther !: 95 Treasures – 95 People ( Stiftung Luthergedenkstatten , 2017 ); and presented a paper entitled “ Calvinism and Catholicism on Divine Election , with Special Attention to Middle Knowledge ,” at an ecumenical symposium at Sacred Heart Major Seminary , December 2 .
Dr . Ralph Martin , professor of theology , led a retreat and study days for Priests , Seminarians and Religious Sisters , various locations in the Peoples ’ Republic of China , August 10-27 ; attended Meeting of the Consultors to the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization , Vatican City , September 22-27 ; and led the Study Day for Bishops , Priests , Seminarians and Religious Sisters , Diocese of Harlem / Amsterdam , The Netherlands , February 18-20 , 2018 .
Dr . Peter S . Williamson , Adam Cardinal Maida Chair in Sacred Scripture , gave a biblical formation retreat for diaconal candidates of the Archdiocese of Detroit , “ Falling in Love with the Word of God ,” St . Fabian
Parish , Farmington Hills , MI , October 14 ; co-edited Romans ( Baker Academic , a Division of Baker Publishing Group , 2017 ), by Scott Hahn and submitted Galatians for publication , co-authored with Cardinal Albert Vanhoye .
Dr . Robert Fastiggi , professor of systematic theology , was a speaker at an October 13-14 , 2017 conference in honor of the centenary of the 1917 apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima , Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish , Plymouth , MI ; and he published “ Francisco Suárez and the Non-Believers ,” PENSAMIENTO , vol . 74 ( 2018 ). In January , 2018 , Dr . Fastiggi was elected a “ corresponding member ” of the Pontifical Marian Academy International .
Fr . Charles Fox , director of graduate seminarians , published “ The Relationship Between the Eucharist and Evangelization in the Sermons of Ronald A . Knox ” ( doctoral dissertation ), Pontifical University of St . Thomas Aquinas , Rome ; and presented “ Eucharistic Evangelization : Opportunities and Obstacles ,” Lenten Reflection for the Alumni Association of Sacred Heart Major Seminary , February 28 , 2018 .
Fr . Pieter vanRooyen , assistant professor of theology , defended the doctoral dissertation , “ Christ and the Eucharist from the Perspective of Created Actuation by Uncreated Act : The Contribution of Maurice de la Taille to the Development of Neo-Scholastic Manualist Theology ,” in Rome at the Pontifical Lateran University on October 12 , 2017 .
Dr . Mary Healy , professor of Sacred Scripture , presented at clergy conferences for the dioceses of Bismarck , ND , August 28-31 and Tulsa , OK , January 15-17 . She gave two workshops at the SLS18 Conference held by the Fellowship of Catholic University Students on January 4-5 . Her book , The Spiritual Gifts Handbook , co-authored with Dr . Randy Clark , was published in March 2018 .
Msgr . Daniel Trapp , associate professor of systematic theology , liturgy , and sacraments took part in Federation of Seminary Spiritual Directors conference in Toronto , Canada , October 19-22 , 2017 ; presented “ Virtues and Seminary Formation ” with Bp . Gerard Battersby , for the Seminary Research Council at St . Vincent DePaul Seminary in Boynton Beach , Florida , February 28-March 4 , 2018 ; and participated in the Advisory Council meeting of the Institute of Priestly Formation in Omaha , March 7-9 , 2018 .
Paco Gavrilides , instructor of homiletics , served as the retreat master for the Catholic Biblical School of Michigan Eighth Annual Retreat at Ss . Cyril and Methodius , March 3 , 2018 ; participated in two evenings of preaching the gospel and prayer for the sick , Cleveland , OH , March 7-8 , 2018 ; and presented “ In Everything The Good is There !...
