A Celebration for the Whole Church : A New Priest Ordained for Detroit

A completely full church came to celebrate Fr . Zaid Chabaan ’ s ordination on May 22 .
Numerous priests from across the archdiocese who were in attendance not only participated in the ordination liturgy , but many also celebrated their own priestly anniversaries , as it is common for ordinations to take place on the vigil of Pentecost in the Archdiocese of Detroit .
Two other men were ordained at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament on May 15 , Fr . John Dudek , 55 , and Fr . Robert Voiland , 60 , who studied in the Archdiocese of Boston . The ordination Masses were held separately to encourage social distancing in the cathedral .
As the Detroit church welcomed another priest into its fold , Archbishop Vigneron made clear that this ordination , its significance , and the ensuing celebration , were meant for the whole Church community .
“ We are not here as observers ; we are here as participants ,” Archbishop Vigneron said . “ Christ our head acts , and we are his members , and we act with him especially by our prayers and thanksgiving .”
