This year marks the centennial of our seminary building . Thus , the bricks that give shape to the seminary communal life and God ’ s grace have marked this location for 100 years . Through the challenges and blessings that come with a long history , after a centennial on this corner in the City of Detroit , the mission is not complete . What will God want from the mission of Sacred Heart Major Seminary in the years to come ?
This century-old seminary building is a gift from the people of Detroit to train priests , deacons , and lay ministers for the local Church as well as a place of study for students around the world . I pray that the seminary is also a gift to the people of Detroit as the Gospel of Jesus Christ is preached and lived due to the dedicated ministers who contribute to the higher education and formation that takes place in these walls . Our culture needs integrated ministers who live and promote the mission of Jesus Christ so that divine matters direct the human affairs of our communities .
None of us can predict the future . We live in changing times . These 100 years of brick and mortar , and more years as a seminary institution before that , show us that God still sends his ministers into the world , there is hope , and there are ministers to bring you the eternal truths of God .
I am grateful for your support of Sacred Heart Major Seminary , which allows this institution of the Church to stand as a commitment to Christian higher education and formation so that the ministers trained here can promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ beyond our local borders .
