F our April graduates of the seminary, and one former student, were ordained into the Order of the Presbyterate for the Archdiocese of Detroit on Saturday, May 14, by Archbishop Allen Vigneron at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. The newest Sacred Heart priestgraduates are Fr. Paul Graney, Fr. Dominic Macioce, Fr. Kevin Roelant, and Fr. Timothy Wezner. Each earned a Master of Divinity degree from the seminary and the graduatelevel Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree conferred by Rome’s Pontifical University of St. Thomas through Sacred Heart’s faculty. Fr. David Tomaszycki was ordained for the Archdiocese of Detroit along with his brother alumni. He attended Sacred Heart’s graduate school of theology before the archbishop assigned him to study at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he completed his Bachelor of Sacred Theology this spring. KEVIN ROELANT • Home parish: St. Anne, Monroe • First Assignment: National Shrine of the Little Flower, Royal Oak • “Growing up in this Catholic family and environment was foundational for my vocation. I was taught, especially by my dad, that God and our faith is what is most important.” FR. TIMOTHY WEZNER • Home parish: SS. Cyril and Methodius, Sterling Heights • First Assignment: St. Hugo of the Hills, Bloomfield Hills • “It’s becoming tough to be a Christian. We need to boldly preach the joy of the Gospel to our post-Christian world, just as the apostles did two thousand years ago.” FR. DAVID TOMASZYCKI • Home parish: Immaculate Conception, Anchorville • First Assignment: Returning to studies in Rome • “I hope to answer the call of the New Evangelization by bringing Christ to people, and people to Christ. First and foremost, I myself need to fall madly in love with Jesus Christ.” As a regional seminary, Sacred Heart is educating and forming future priests from across the state of Michigan and across the country. Beside the Detroit ordinations, nine seminary graduates have been ordained this spring for four other dioceses. That makes a total of thirteen new priests from the Sacred Heart Class of 2016.
