Pierz-Genola Hillman / Harding

Pierz , with a population of more than 1,400 , and the surrounding area take great pride in its retail , recreational , residential and religious heritage . Located midway between St . Cloud and Brainerd , it is a natural stopping place for vacationers on their way to the Northern Minnesota lakes . Whether the need is dining , fueling up , stocking the pantry or fixing the cabin , the business community welcomes visitors with hometown friendliness . Skilled professionals attend to the community ’ s medical , dental , pharmaceutical , chiropractic and eye care needs . Pierz is served by its own police force and volunteer fire department and has its own public library .

Standing on the highest point in town is the St . Joseph ’ s Catholic Church , built 1886 - 88 . The Gothic buff-brick ediface is listed on the National Register of Historic Places .

The city has a beautiful naturally landscaped nine – hole golf course , clubhouse and a growing campsite area . In the winter , ice skating is available on two city rinks and ice fishing at nearby Pierz Fish Lake , and weather permitting , cross-country skiing at the Pierz Municipal Golf Course . Snowmobile enthusiasts can get on the Soo Line Recreation Trail in Genola and head east to Duluth or connect with the maze of other groomed Morrison County trails .

The Pierz Junior High Band and Choir will perform in the middle school gym , beginning at 5:30 p . m . Choir Concert 5th and 6th at 5:30 p . m . 7th and 8th at 7:15 p . m .

Saturday , Dec . 7 • Harding Horse ’ n Around Christmas

The Harding Horse ’ n around Christmas parade begins at 5 p . m . down Main Street Harding . It is a Christmas parade with all equine dressed with bells , Christmas lights and garland pulling beautiful decorated wagons and horseback riding all decked out in Christmas theme . Parking will be available around the northwest side of the cemetery in the field . Bleachers will be set up on the east side of the church .

Wednesday , Dec . 4 • St . Nick Night The Pierz Area Commercial Club will host its 16th annual St . Nick Night , from 4 p . m . – 8 p . m . Santa will be at the Pierz Ballroom on Main Street , from 4 p . m . – 7:30 p . m . so kids can have their photo taken with him , courtesy of Unity Bank . Trolley rides to see the lights will pick up and drop off at Farmers and Merchants State Bank , from 5 p . m . – 7:30 p . m . A holiday boutique will be set up at Holy Trinity Catholic School from 3:30 p . m . – 7:30 p . m . At the Pierz Library , parents and their little ones can enjoy making a craft , from 4 p . m . – 7 p . m .
