Meet Patrick (National Director of SR Kenya)
I was born and brought in korogocho 3 largest slum in Kenya the area is characterized by
Overcrowding with inadequate housing lack of clean water playing ground social amenities inadequate sewerage, and un collected waste and high unemployment rate among the productive age group. For many years the area has experienced social exclusion and relative lack support.
Thanks to Siegfried milchberger, the Austrian philanthropist who founded the Kenya Homeless street soccer Association in December 2003.By involving the youth in this sport I participated In their tournaments.
It was when I got interested and went for selection. In 2004 HWC was held in Sweden
But Kenya never made due to lack of funds. In 2005 Kenya still didn’t travel to Scotland and was in selection,2006 Kenya made to HWC in South Africa but I was dropped last minute, in 2007 Kenya traveled to Copenhagen but still I was dropped due to luck of traveling document, in 2008 Kenya made it to Australia still I didn’t make.
Lady luck smiled at me in 2010 I was made Babadogo coordinator Korogocho neighbor in the same constituency during selection I had to walk 6km to and fro with one meal a day, I also got a friend who gave me a place to be sleeping but I depended myself for food. Two weeks to Rio Safari COM came in and gave us allowances, myself I opened account and saved, I was selected to carry national flag in Rio.
When we were in Rio it was fantastic meeting and making friends even our Team manager had to challenge my fellow players to be like me when going up and down he would see me with a new friend I had a book and wrote their addresses and they gave theirs. I made 70 new friends from all over world within a week.
After Rio I started a bracelets making business , rented my house, I became a role model to the boys in slums.I featured In THE BIG ISSUE KENYA, I saw street soccer as one way of elevating poverty and dreams in my life. I formed teams in different age categories 12, 14, 17 years and over both boys and girls.
It is through writing to my friends whom I met with in Rio, I partnered with streets revolution I shared with them my mission and vision and through [Jon] STREETS REVOLUTION promised to assist.
From then we have grown from strength to strength, Streets Revolution has donated football equipment to Street Revolution Kenya we have been sending our bracelets to Streets revolution head quarter for marketing. Youths are now busy playing soccer, making bracelets and not having time to engage to crime, drug taking and chancel ling girls to avoid early pregnancies.
We would like also to be sending bracelets to HWC tournaments bearing colors and tournament brand and Homeless to have a share to help in HWC tournament donation if given a chance.
