McLaren P1
Owned by R8Pro
(guess what one of
his other cars is?),
this is one of the 375
P1s put into
production. Using a
version of McLaren’s
3.8L V8, this
technology-laden
hypercar with active
aerodynamics, EV
assist, and IPAS
makes for one epic
Brit.
The cars alone were
worth a lot of time just
staring at. In fact, I spent
at least a couple of hours
around there. But such a
supercar experience
becomes even better
when the owners are
around. After all, the
owners are fascinating
too. I met the owner of
the Ariel Atom (IG:
porschekid), and none of
us knew how the Atom
was street legal here in
the USA. I also met the
owner of the UGR
Gallardo (IG: cincy_gtt),
and we had a nice
talk. He’s been quite
supportive of this
magazine I created
(thanks Cincy!). The next
two owners were also
quite interesting.
In August of 2014, I met
R8Pro. On a random
night, he was driving his
new-at-the-time McLaren
650S Spider, and he
stopped by a gas
station. I was driving
home with my family, and
I quickly pulled into the
gas station to check it
out. The two of us had a
very nice conversation
about McLarens. Six
months later, he
somewhat remembered
me from that
conversation. This time,
he had his brand-new P1
nearby, so of course we
had a talk about - you
guessed it - McLarens.
The other person I met
was a man named Cody,
who goes by
DoctaM3. Those of you
who watch car videos on
YouTube probably know
about him. He owns
multiple cars, including a
BMW i8, Ferrari 458,
Huracan, and more. One
thing he prides himself in
is being a supercar owner
who actually drives the
car. He’s not one to say
that his cars stay in
hiding. Well, except
come wintertime (save for
the i8). While it is
possible to drive
supercars during winter
(as some Europeans do),
I would not advise driving
during a Pittsburgh
winter. The potholes
appear too easily, and
nobody wants to worry
about potholes on lowprofile tires.
Oh, and remember when
I mentioned earlier that I
came to the auto show
alone? I ended up not
alone for a short bit. I
met a couple of guys
under 21 who do some of
their own automotive
photography. They were
great people, and both of
them are around many
Pittsburgh automotive
events.
After spending a few
hours by the Cars ‘n
Coffee area, I explored
