1. What is a day in the life of Cristina Holben like?
ABSOLUTE CHAOS!
2. How did your career begin in the world of beauty?
My father forced me to go to Beauty School at Vo-tech. My career plans were to be a nurse but I ended up loving beauty.
3. What Celebrities have you worked on?
I have worked on over countless celebrities, however; due to confidentiality clauses I am not allowed to disclose them. What I can say is I worked on the first season of The Biggest Loser and many musicians including some Academy Award Winners. I also assisted in many editorial fashion shoots and runway events.
4. How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other artists?
I enhance natural beauty so that the model/ client is comfortable. Then [I] take it to the next level.
5. What is the most memorable moment you have had while doing hair and makeup?
Once I had a bride so stressed about her wedding day that her skin started to peel. She was so upset that I had to calm her down. I grabbed some honey off the coffee bar, guided her to the bathroom and told her to apply and remove the honey from her face. (this had no value except to keep her mind off her peeling skin and the wedding day) I worked on her bridal party then did her makeup... I knew I could conceal her peeling skin but [I] needed her calm first.
6. What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women?
Always seek a professional’s advice rather than waste your time and money on beauty gimmicks.
7. What are some common beauty mistakes that women make?
Attempting to change their own hair color.
8. Do you feel that looking and feeling beautiful is important in regard to a woman’s confidence and self-esteem?
Yes, It is extremely important because when you feel good about yourself, you feel as though you can conquer the world. Whether it is a little makeup or more makeup, you need to feel good about yourself.
9. Do you feel that you have achieved all of your goals as a successful makeup artist?
I feel blessed at what I have been able to achieve, but the industry is ever evolving and you need to constantly look forward to the next trend to stay competitive.
10. Who are some people that have inspired you throughout your career?
What really sparked my career was my beauty school teacher. How much she loved the industry sparked my love of the
industry and that fire has never gone out.
11. Do you see yourself someday creating your own line of makeup?
I would love to someday create my own hair care line but at this time I have placed it on the back burner.
12. What are some of your favorite products in your makeup kit?
Eye primer, concealer and bronzing powder
13. What’s your favorite concealer of all time?
Mac Pro Concealer
14. What products do you think should be a staple in every woman’s purse?
Mascara, Chap Stick and an eye shadow, you can enhance anything with that.
15. Do you believe that sometimes less is more?
Absolutely
16. What tips can you give to young women who want to start preparing their skin in advance for a special event like a wedding?
Get a facial about a week before the event, a hydrating mask a day or 2 before. Come to the saloon with clean, dry, lightly moisturized skin and we can take it from there.
17. What about if you can’t afford an estheticians?
Nothing will ever work as good as pro products because we are licensed and trained to use stronger products. For those that absolutely cannot afford one, seek one out and ask advice on over the counter products that may give a similar result.
18. What do you recommend women do to cover up problematic skin?
Problematic skin is a very broad spectrum but a full spectrum foundation such as Dermablend that makes a concealer for all types of problematic skin.
19. What do you suggest women do to achieve the perfect everyday look?
Your everyday makeup should only take 5 minutes. Find what works for you and keep it within your repertoire. When you go out special then enhance your everyday look.
20. What message do you have for models out there out there aspiring to grow up to be successful?
You will always get the best results when you are a down to earth outgoing person that people want to work with. If people do not feel at ease or want to work with you it will never happen.
