Helping students fund their education,
the College distributes an estimated
70 scholarships each year. Over the
past six years nearly one million dollars
have helped students realize their
dreams of becoming a nurse. With 500
academically competitive students vying
for scholarship funds, the demand for
financial support is growing.
As the College continues its work to address
the national shortage of nurses and nursing
faculty, we strive to reduce the challenges
they experience to matriculation. This mission
continues to grow in importance as the world
of healthcare becomes increasingly complex.
Great changes that will impact the delivery of
care are on the horizon:
One of our most important partnerships
is with you. Philanthropic giving is crucial to
infusing a pipeline of financial support to assist
more students in realizing their career goals of
becoming nurse educators, nurse researchers,
and practicing nurses.
This College has enjoyed strong support
from alumni and friends, and as we continue to
address the healthcare needs in the community,
we will depend on you more than ever.
Your generosity will have a positive impact on
individual lives, students who over their career
will treat thousands of patients, nurses who will
provide vital leadership in a time of change, and
researchers who will create new knowledge that
will improve healthcare in Michigan, our country,
and the world.

SUPPORTING THE COLLEGE
• Over 10,000 baby boomers reach their 65th
birthday every day, moving closer to years
of multiple and chronic conditions and
eventual palliative care.
• An estimated 32 million patients enter
the healthcare system via the Affordable
Care Act.
• Michigan’s nursing workforce is aging and
nearing retirement with 40% of active RNs
age 55 and older, and 70% of NPs age 45
and older.
Scholarships ensure success in
educating the next generation of
nursing professionals, expanding
nursing science through research, and
supporting public needs through clinical
practice and outreach. Scholarships also inspire
tremendous commitment to the practice of
nursing and the profession.
