yourself from the world without a second thought or care. So what can you do in your day-to-day? Well you know what they say about the early bird and the worm. If you wake up early enough, you might find a few unclaimed minutes. The house is quiet, the traffic hasn’t yet begun to stir, and there’s still a bit of space before the cacophony of the day begins to encroach. You can listen to your breathing as you and the silence get to know one another. Most importantly, you’ve got to learn to listen. Listen past your own breathing. Listen for the spaces not yet occupied. Listen for the rhythm of the universe – the faint heartbeat which links us all together. Be aware you can also listen with your other senses! Look around and see what’s not obvious. Pay attention to the little things that may cross your path. When you’re able to sync with the heartbeat, you can leave your cares where they are and spend this respite enjoying the nurturing of silence.
