Nothing gets done properly or correctly – instead, we spend inordinate
amounts of time putting bandages in place and triaging activities as
priorities constantly shift.
It’s about focusing on the present moment. Learning to concentrate on
what’s directly in front of you and learning how to be more productive
while taking on less tasks. That’s because the ones you take on are
significantly more important because they matter in the present moment.
When your attention is not divided, you are able to slow down and
consider all the inputs and redirect your energies toward producing
successful outputs.
Paying it forward is a good way to keep the momentum on moving
forward. Almost daily we are the recipients of small and seemingly
random acts of kindness. Sometimes, because our thinking is distracted,
we fail to pay attention and therefore, let the kindnesses pass
unacknowledged.
If you’ve made a habit of letting these generous abundances just go by,
this is the perfect opportunity for you to begin recalibrating your thoughts
and moving them forward. You certainly don’t go into it expecting to
receive anything as a result of your action. It isn’t about keeping score
and waiting for the reward(s) to be funneled back your direction.
Paying it forward always happens at just the right time, even when you
can’t know the ultimate impact in another’s life. A kindness doesn’t
have to cost you anything, but it is certainly a mindful and purposeful
action. Benign and yet powerful! Especially when the recipient is someone
previously unknown to you, there can be greater emotional impact.
Remember, we are who we see reflected in the eyes and emotions of
others. So if you really want to reveal who you are and how others see
you, do something outside yourself, selflessly, without expectation of
repayment and/or acknowledgment. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
I hope you have numerous opportunities this holiday season to personally
experience how mindfulness and paying it forward can have a positive
impact on your life. You might be surprised at the outcome. And, as they
say, a habit – something learned over a period of 28 or more days – can
have a lifetime of benefit.
